This past summer in NYC was a scorcher. It was my first summer dealing with a hot husky and in the beginning I was lost! Luckily, I quickly learned how to help keep her cool!

1. Move your dog's crate or bed DIRECTLY next to the A/C if

you don't have central air. No matter what your A/C

situation, designate a fan inside of your home to help

him cool off after going outside. Meeko spent so much

time in her crate with the door open because it was

placed in the coolest spot in the house.

2. Buy a kiddie pool. Your dog will have to go outside and

run around at some point, but give him the option of

having a pool full of water to splash around in to cool

off. Add ice cubes! Another option is to freeze ziploc

baggies full of water and make "iceburgs."

3. Fill a kong with peanut butter, yogurt, bananas, some

kibble and treats and freeze it for a tasty treat! Or check

out the freezer section of your local pet shop. Some

grocery stores even carry doggy ice cream. Alternatively,

you can make your own and freeze the mixture in ice

   cube trays! Recipe here.

4. Water, water, water.

Meeko went through bowls and bowls of water during the

summer. It's worth it to buy a water dispenser bowl so

that you don't have to fill it up constantly throughout

   the day.

5. Finicky Eating

Once summer rolled around, Meeko became less

interested in her food. At first I thought she was sick,

but I read a lot about huskies in the summer and lots of

posters said that their dogs' appetites were just not as

hearty in the summer. Some days Meeko wouldn't touch

  her food until 10PM.
